Sailor's Adage about Wind

June 26, 2024. Calm morning, then a sudden change in wind direction resulting in a wind from the west with rain imminent.  It then rained -- maybe 20 mins -- the the wind picked up in a blow from the gap.

Gramps looked at me with that famous serious look:

"If wind before rain you may soon sail again. If rain before wind, topsails and halyards mind."

"Do you have other adages?" I asked.

"Red sky at night, sailor's delight.  Red sky in morning, sailors take warning. "

"These are not my originals."
